Community invited to jive at The Burroughs

The Burroughs is inviting the local community to jive to the sound of rock classics from the 1950s.

On Saturday 18th May, from 2pm-4.30pm, The Burroughs, on Mill Road, is inviting the local community to a 1950s-themed event to mark the 65th anniversary of Rock Around the Clock by Bill Haley and the Comets, widely considered to be the world’s first rock ‘n’ roll anthem.

On arrival, guests will be treated to a barbecue specially prepared by The Burroughs chef. Residents and visitors will also be joined by pupils from Park Academy to swing and jive to live entertainment from Dave Mac.

The nationwide initiative, launched by Care UK, sees care homes across the country get together to host rock ‘n’ roll-themed events. The aim is to encourage residents to reminisce about their younger years and share memories of life in the 1950s.

Bozena Szczepaniak, home manager at The Burroughs, said: “Here at The Burroughs, we feel it is important to build a strong relationship with the local community, so we’re excited to take a trip down memory lane with everyone to mark the 65th anniversary of Rock Around the Clock.

“Our theme is sure to bring back memories, with many residents witnessing the birth of rock ‘n’ roll in the 1950s – so I’m sure many of them will enjoy remembering their younger years, and maybe even teach us a dance move or two.

“We have a fun-filled day of activities planned for residents, team members and the community, and are looking forward to seeing the smiles on everyone’s faces as they twist and jive.”
