Sevenoaks care home opens its doors for a merry good time

Home news

Snow is falling, children are playing – and a Sevenoaks care home is opening its doors to help combat loneliness in the community this festive season.

Throughout December, Care UK’s Weald Heights, on Bourchier Close, is welcoming older members of the community to get into the festive spirit by joining residents and team members for a festive afternoon tea, live entertainment and a Christmas movie showing.

Studies have shown that almost 1.5 million older people feel lonelier at Christmas than any other time of year*. To help tackle loneliness, Care UK has launched its Care to Share initiative, designed to support older people through the festive season.

More than 100 Care UK homes nationwide will be taking part to give older members of the community a safe and sociable space where they can enjoy some festive fun and good company – whether it’s singing along to Christmas carols or watching a Christmas movie with a mince pie.

At Weald Heights, the team have been hard at work spreading Christmas cheer and have planned several festive activities for everyone to enjoy. On Saturday 2nd December between 10am and 12.30pm, the home will be playing classic Christmas movies in the home’s cinema alongside the opportunity to join in with activities.

For those looking to enjoy a mince pie and a mulled wine, the home is also hosting a festive afternoon tea, complete with sandwiches, cakes and scones, where visitors can share their favourite moments of Christmas with the residents and team members.

Maria Covington, Home Manager at Weald Heights, said: “Here at Weald Heights, the team go above and beyond each year to make sure the Christmas period really is the most wonderful time of year for residents – but not everyone is so lucky.

“We know Christmas can be a lonely time for those who are missing a loved one, and we’re determined to do our bit to support our community which is why we’re thrilled to be hosting several Christmas events for the local older community to enjoy this festive period.

“We hope to see many of our neighbours and friends, both familiar and new, to join us for a glass of mulled wine and a mince pie!”
